Born in the
Kashmir Valley

Kashmiria was founded with a single, passionate conviction: the world deserves to experience the extraordinary beauty of authentic Kashmiri craftsmanship — and the artisans who create it deserve to be fairly rewarded.

Our founder, having grown up watching her grandmother wear a treasured Kaani shawl on special occasions, was struck by how difficult it was to find genuinely authentic pieces in the UK. Most shawls sold as "Kashmiri" were machine-made imitations, robbing buyers of true quality and depriving artisans of their livelihood.

In 2019, she travelled to Srinagar and spent three months learning the craft directly from master weavers. Kashmiria was born from that journey.

"The finest things in life are made by hand, with time, and with love."

— Aisha Khan, Founder

Techniques
Unchanged for Centuries

The four crafts we champion each have a distinct history and character:

Silk Sozni Embroidery

Delicate needle-work embroidery on silk, using threads finer than human hair. Sozni motifs — flowers, paisleys, vines — are worked from memory, passed from master to apprentice.

Kaani (Tapestry) Weaving

The most labour-intensive of all. Each colour thread is wound on a small wooden bobbin (the "kaani") and interlocked row by row. A complex shawl can take 6–18 months.

Pashmina Weaving

Pashmina comes from the soft undercoat of the Changthangi goat, combed by hand at altitudes above 14,000 feet. The finest Pashmina can be passed through a finger ring.

Kalamkari Painting

Narrative art painted with a bamboo pen (kalam) using natural dyes from plants and minerals. Each shawl tells a story — of gardens, mythology, or daily life.

What We
Stand For

Authenticity

Every Kashmiria piece is genuinely handmade in Kashmir and comes with a certificate of origin. We never sell machine-made or imitation products.

Fair Trade

Our artisans receive above-market wages and full credit for their work. We believe the people who create beauty should be able to afford beautiful lives.

Sustainability

Natural fibres, natural dyes, handloom weaving — our production has an inherently low footprint. We use recycled packaging and offset our shipping carbon.

Preservation

We actively fund apprenticeship programmes in Kashmir to ensure these ancient crafts are taught to the next generation and not lost to history.
